Back to life... [Jun. 6th, 2005|11:17 pm]
The trial is over. It ended today around 2pm.

I will give full details and my take on everything a little later on. Right now, I'm just glad to be home and spent a long time today hugging the kids and answering questions that they had about the case.

We found James Mitchell McCray guilty of two counts of first degree murder. Due to a "hung jury", he will recieve a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. The result of the penalty phase of deliberations was 11 to 1 in favor of death by lethal injection.

If you want to see more details of the case as reported by local news media, I've provided some links.

When it's put up on the website, I'll include a link to my very short blurb on the local news channel. It's really very brief.

I had thought I had managed to avoid the media and then when the elevator stopped on the 5th floor, guess who got on? *groan*

They asked if I would give a statement and I informed them that it depended on what they asked. Knowing full well they could edit it to put whatever spin on it they wanted to. I gave them about 5 sentences.

When asked how I felt I simply told them "I'm tired and ready to get home to my family".

Anyhow, I know this is rather short and to the point, but I'm exhausted. We started the actual trial on Tuesday of last week and went all the way through today. The closing arguments for the penalty phase of the trial didn't end until 11pm last night.

So, here's some links. I'll soon give you all the full monty of my opinions and what I learned, etc. Right now, I just want to rest.

I do not expect you to read all of these, but I figured in lieu of me really feeling like typing up a full blown update, I'd at least let you guys know where I've been for the last 2 weeks.

Be good to one another.

I read all the links ('cause I'm obsessive like that) thanks for posting them.

I can't even imagine how difficult that must have been, to sit in on a murder trial let alone a death penalty decision.

What a tough thing to do. I'm embarassed to say it sorta makes me glad I never get picked for jury duty.
