Today I started with Flying Colors. A painting company in Jax. It's a bit of a commute, but I really like my new boss.
He had mentioned he had a family. When I arrived at 7:30 this morning, I had the pleasure of meeting his wife and EIGHT kids. They are some really cool kids, too.
Today he managed to answer a question for me that I've been asking for years. Failed religion in Catholic School over this argument. I'll post more about it later, but it was nice to have someone at least attempt a response other than "Just because" or "That's just the way it is."
It's been a while since I've done exterior painting and I'd forgotten how physically demanding it is. Interior is also physical, but it's more precise and requires more attention to detail. Exterior tends to require things like carrying 5 gallon buckets of paint and standing on 3 story extension ladders in the sun all day.
Don't get me wrong. I love the job. I like the folks I'm working with who really blow out of the water the reputation that a lot of painters have. However, for those that don't know me in real life, I'm 5'2" and weight about 120 lbs. So it can definately be a challenge when you're slightly out of shape and practice.
I forsee a long bath and an early to bed kind of night in my near future. Curling up with my new Robin Cook novel should prove to be just what the doctor ordered. (along with a dose of Advil)
